Video: Cooking Sweet and Sour Chicken

Almost everyone I know LOVES Sweet and Sour Chicken at Chinese restaurants, but very few people have ever tried to cook it at home. Like most things, it’s EASY if you know the right technique!

The secret to the crispy, delectable coating on the chicken that gives it its signature “crunch” is a mixture of cornstarch and baking soda. And, of course, the recipe is in the book!

Back in 1997 (or ‘96?), I filmed some segments for a PBS-syndicated show, Creative Living with Sheryl Borden that ran in 100 markets (40 states & several US territories). It was a lot of fun, but a bit of a challenge, since these are unedited, uncut, live shots where we had one chance to get it and get it right (nice challenge for a webnerd like me who’s used to performing behind a keyboard, not in front of a camera!).

Here’s an 8 minute YouTube video of Kerri Elders cooking Sweet and Sour Chicken with Sheryl Borden, host of the PBS-syndicated show, Creative Living:
